SHOPPERS have been left shocked by a premature decision rolled out by Costco. The wholesale retailer has decided to go full-steam ahead with its festive offerings, three months before the big day. Costco members took to social media over the weekend after spotting Christmas items had already hit shelves.

"It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Costco," Facebook user Pat O'Halloran shared in a post over the weekend. The caption was accompanied by photographs of an artificial Christmas tree with multi-colored lights and a huge light-up penguin holding a candy cane. "You have got to be kidding me," one unimpressed shopper replied.

While some Scrooge's have claimed it is far too early for retailers to start selling Christmas items, others are delighted.

"Costco - never to (sic) early for Christmas!" one shopper said. "Ohhh so exciting. Christmas will soon be here," another added.

Like Costco, the retailer has received some backlash from shoppers begging companies not to "push the season.

" "Halloween in July, Christmas in August," one shopper said on a Facebook thread after one user wrote that Sam's Club "already" has Christmas items on display. "It's not even Close to Christmas," another added. Retailers like Dollar Tree and Walmart have also been criticized for turning on the Christmas lights too early, with many asking for a focus on Halloween first.
