When you see what speeds Nokia has just achieved you'll just how bad your broadband is.

The UK's broadband is getting faster with millions of homes now able to access speeds in excess of 1Gbps. At that rate you could download a full HD Hollywood movie in under 40 seconds which is pretty impressive. Although that's good news for some there are still plenty of properties - mainly in rural areas - suffering from truly dismal downloads and if that wasn't bad enough, Nokia has just shown off what's possible if you don't live in Britain.

The famous Finnish phone firm has just confirmed it's managed to beam the web across its fibre network at speeds of 100Gbps. Yes, that's 100 times faster than most UK providers can muster. At that ludicrously fast rate it would take the blink of an eye to whizz that same blockbuster to TVs.

A massive 50GB PS5 game will also arrive on consoles in just 4 seconds. HERE'S HOW LONG A 50GB PS5 GAME TAKES DEPENDING ON SPEED Speed - 32Mbps: Download time 3hrs 45 mins Speed 72Mbps - UK average : Download time 3hrs 45 mins Speed 200Mbps: Download time 30 minutes Speed 500Mbps: Download time 14 minutes Speed 1Gbps: Download time 7 minutes Speed 100Gbps: Download time 4 seconds Those 100Gbps lightning-fast broadband speeds have been made possible thanks to a joint partnership between Nokia and Elisa - a Finnish telecommunications and digital service provider. The two firms say that the trial builds on Elisa’s current fibre deployment and demonstrates how different internet technologies can be combined on the same fibre to evolve the broadband offerings available to customers.

The live trial has also demonstrated how operators can easily upgrade their current fibre network to meet the demand for faster, more reliable connectivity. It's yet to be seen when, or if, consumers will ever see these seriously impressive downloads but the test has shown what is possible. Right now, some of the best speeds in the UK come from smaller Internet Service Providers (ISPs) such as Community Fibre who currrnet offer 3Gbps downloads.

“Nokia’s fibre solution will help us significantly enhance our fibre network to deliver some of the fastest internet speeds in the world," Sami Rajamäki, Vice President of Network Services at Elisa, explained. "We’re excited to be the first in Europe to show up to 100G PON speeds in a live fibre network trial and demonstrate the world-class capabilities we can deliver to support the next generation of broadband services. By partnering with Nokia, we can showcase our commitment to guaranteeing the best, high-quality services for our customers.

"We know that for example online gaming and industrial users are among the first to benefit from ever faster broadband connections” And Matthieu Bourguignon, Senior Vice President and Head of Europe for Network Infrastructure business at Nokia, adde: “We see demand for high-speed internet access surging in Europe with end users and enterprises alike increasingly seeking reliable, secure, high-quality broadband connectivity.".
