Youngsters used Wanderers' car park for their own football match

Recently in Looking Back we featured a photo of Burnden Park, for so long the home of Bolton Wanderers , which showed youngsters playing football on the car park off Manchester Road. Football at Burnden Park, 1994 (Picture: Newsquest) Looking Back reader Peter Holden has helped date that photo to pre October 1957 as that was when floodlights were installed at that part of the ground. Today, however we have moved forward in time a little to 1974, but the subject matter is just the same.

The large car park was the perfect place for a kick-about and these lads were making the most of it, even providing their own goal posts..
