Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has described Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as a land grabber who will return the lands he has ‘stolen’ at the right time. Wike has been in the eyes of the storm in the few days following a mass demolition of houses in the FCT while he has also been accused of revoking land allocations within the FCT and reallocating them to his loyalists and cronies. The Minister, through the FCTA, has been demolishing what he calls illegal structures in estates and shanties in Abuja because, according to him, the structures pose security risks, while some of the lands belong to the government But in the midst of the allegations and backlash that has followed the demolitions, Wike has vowed never to succumb to those he labeled as blackmailers.

While justifying the demolitions in a statement on Thursday, Wike said: “Let me use this opportunity to tell Nigerians that we are not afraid of blackmail; in-fact, you can’t be in this kind of position and not be blackmailed particularly as regards Abuja. He noted that other FCT Ministers could not successfully grab people’s lands and Wike would not be an exception. “All the land the land grabber is stealing in Abuja will be collected back. Even Northerners who were FCT Ministers couldn’t steal Abuja land, is it now villager of Obio/Akpor wearing fake designers and looking like a clown that will steal Abuja land? Wike is too small,” Adeyanju wrote.
