York Business Festival looks at the 'Business of Football'

The business of football will be discussed as part of the York Business Festival at York St John University later this month.

The business of will be discussed as part of the York Business Festival later this month. The event at York St John University features James Mason, former BBC Sport Presenter and Bradford City AFC Chief Operating Officer, plus Colin Gordon, former professional footballer and sports agent. A Q & A session will be hosted by Sarah Czarnecki, President of York & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce.

During the session James and Colin will share valuable insights about their career in sport, discuss the ways in which football integrates with the business world and tell us what it takes to make a successful sports business. James, who is CEO of the West and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “Football is a truly global sport with an audience in the billions. “I know from my previous career about the vast amount of work that needs to take place to make the sport we all love commercially viable.



“I am looking forward to discussing my career in sport, the ways in which football integrates with the commercial world and what it takes to make a successful sports business. “It’s also incredibly timely to have this event in York with the city’s football club flying high under its new owners.” Sarah Czarnecki told the Press: “York is a city that, for centuries, has been a hot bed for entrepreneurs.

The recent purchase of Football Club by the Uggla family signals a new era for the city’s football club. “As the most popular sport in the country, football holds a special place in the nations heart. “Football is a more than just a sport – it is a national and international business force and the evening event in York Business Festival, about The Business of Football, will showcase the expertise and knowledge of James Mason and Colin Gordon helping to highlight what an important part the sport plays in the national and international economy” The event takes place in York St John’s Holgate Dining Room extension from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday November 26.
