Damaturu – The Yobe State Government has launched a capacity building workshop for the Local Government Project Management Committee of the 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Yobe State. The workshop, organized by the State Project Coordinator of Yobe ACReSAL, aims to enhance the understanding of the Community Revolving Fund (CRF) procedure and implementation process. The workshop is part of the World Bank-funded project, ACReSAL, which seeks to address environmental challenges arising from climate change and poor land use practices in northern Nigeria.
The project has four components, including the Climate Smart Agriculture/Community Revolving Fund (CRF) scheme. In his welcome address, the State Project Coordinator ACReSAL (Yobe), Shehu Alhaji Mohammed emphasized that the CRF is not a grant but an investment fund that comes in the form of a loan aimed at revitalizing or improving agricultural practices. The loan is for the communities and will circulate within farmers, sustained through groups that would keep the loan in circulation through prompt repayment.
The World Bank granted no objection for the disbursement of 2,525,000 USD non-interest loan to 101 communities across the 17 LGAs as Scale Up communities. This follows a successful implementation and recovery from the 10 piloting communities. The workshop is expected to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to guide communities in their LGAs appropriately, ensuring the success of the CRF.
The State Project Coordinator urged all participants to engage fully, ask questions, and share experiences to gain a clear understanding of the CRF. In his goodwill message, the Chairman of the DPMs Forum, who is also the Chairman of the Local Government Project Management Committee (LGPMC) of the 17 LGAs of Yobe, Alhaji Adamu Dagon,a stated that the roles of the DPMs are paramount in the implementation of the project He is assured of high commitment in ensuring the effective utilisation of the fund for the purpose meant.
