Tar Heel freshman Helen Yeung twice made three consecutive birdies to shoot a 5-under-par 67 in round one of the Landfall Tradition Friday at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington. Yeung's 67 and a 68 by Megan Streicher led North Carolina to an 8-under 280, one shot off the lead held by Duke and Florida State. Ole Miss is fourth at 6 under and Clemson is fifth at 1 under par.
Yeung's 67 is the low round of her freshman season and ties her for second in the individual standings. Streicher's 68 is her fourth round in the 60s this season. She is tied for fourth.
Yeung began her round with a birdie on the 10 th hole. Following a double-bogey, her only blemish on the card all day, she made birdies on the final three holes of her first nine, then added birdies on her 14 th , 15 th and 16 th holes to finish 5 under. Reagan Southerland shot even par 72, Ing Iadpluem shot 73 and Inez Ng finished with a 75.
Katie Vu also had a 73 as an individual entry. Florida State's Lottie Woad is the individual leader at 7-under 65..
