Yellowstone fans stunned and ask 'what is going on' as another original character is killed off

Spoiler alert for season 5, episode 12 of Yellowstone After the death of John Dutton , the patriarch's children will stop at nothing to avenge their father. Earlier on this season of Yellowstone , John, played by Kevin Costner, was killed in his home by a group of masked assailants who drugged him. The group made it look like a suicide by shooting John and leaving the gun in his hand.

They also placed a bottle of Oxycodone next to his body. Last week's episode revealed that Sarah Atwood, played by Dawn Olivieri, hired the men to kill John. Sarah was then shot in the head as she drives away after a brawl between her and Jamie (Wes Bentley), John's adopted son.

They worry that Jamie would tell the police John's secrets and decide they have to stop Jamie from talking to authorities. But as they plan, a shocking death occurs on the Dutton ranch.

Ranch hand Colby, played by Denim Richards, went to help a teen that the Dutton family took in, Carter. Carter was cornered in a stall by a troubled horse and as Colby helped Carter escape, the horse kicked Colby in the chest, which fatally killed him. Fans were shocked as they watched the character die, especially after he confessed his love to fellow character Teeter.

Yellowstone wtf is going on. Why Colby?!? Why?" one fan wrote on X, formally known as Twitter. Another added: "omg! not colby dying after him and teeter said i love you.

If ANYONE deserved a happy ending when this series ends, it was these two. Felt so bad for Teeter upon hearing the news. After they just said 'I love you' to each other too.

" The episode ended with Kayce finding the leader of the shadow organization that killed John and tracked him down to his daughter's soccer game.
