Nestor Cortes’ dream to pitch in a Word Series game might just come true. Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters during his virtual press conference on Monday that there’s a “good chance” that the pitcher will be on the team’s World Series roster. Cortes, who was placed on the injured list last month with a flexor strain, threw 20-pitch live batting practice before Game 4 of the AL Championship Series on Friday.

“I thought I threw good,” Cortes told NJ Advance Media’s Randy Miller . “I was 88 to 91 (mph). I punched out two guys.

77 ERA in 174 1/3 innings during the regular season. His only postseason experience came in 2022 when he got three starts, two in the AL Division Series against Cleveland and one in the ALCS against Houston. “It’s not every year that you have a chance to pitch in the World Series,” Cortes said.

“If I have the opportunity, I want to do it.” If Cortes makes the roster, he’ll likely replace left-hander Tim Mayza and be used as a reliever. Bridget Hyland may be reached at bhyland@njadvancemedia.
