com (@gsmarena_com) September 18, 2024 A report from 91 Mobiles indicates that Xiaomi has submitted a patent application for its inaugural tri-fold device to the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA). The application, which was reviewed by the source, includes design schematics for the device. This patent was filed on September 3, making it a recent development.

The report includes renders based on the patent information, revealing that the device appears somewhat bulkier compared to Huawei's Mate XT Ultimate. It features two hinges, one of which allows the outermost section of the foldable device to extend outward, transforming it into a conventional bar-shaped smartphone when fully closed. When completely opened, the device adopts a tablet-like form with a rectangular main display.

The camera module design from Xiaomi is characterized by a horizontal arrangement, housing three cameras alongside a flash module in a linear configuration. Despite incorporating two hinges and three rear panels, the phone does not seem as wide as Huawei's Mate XT Ultimate; instead, it appears taller and narrower. This visual impression is consistent whether the device is open or folded, resembling Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 6, which features a narrower cover screen compared to many other foldable smartphones available worldwide.

Information regarding Xiaomi's inaugural tri-fold foldable device was initially revealed in a previous report sourced from the Chinese social media platform Weibo. The informant did not disclose any specifics concerning the phone's hardware specifications, merely indicating that such a device is under development. #Xiaomi 's patent for a tri-fold mobile phone has been revealed.
