Wuling Hongguang Mini EV 5 door opens pre-orders in China On December 12, Wuling announced that the 5-door Hongguang Mini EV had opened reservations. It should be noted that Wuling is officially referring to the car as a 4 door, although the car is actually a five-door hatchback. The car is the second generation version of the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV.

It is an evolutionary change in the car’s design and rides on the new Tianyu S platform and will be available in both 3 and 5-door versions. The first-generation Mini EV has been a sales sensation since it was introduced in 2020, having sold more than 1.4 million units.

As incentives for opening preorders, Wuling has announced gifts valued at 10,000 yuan (1,400 USD) for orders placed. The most significant of these are a lifetime warranty on the drivetrain and a 3.5 kW charging pile.

Both the 3 and 5-door versions share the same dimensions of 3256, 1510, and 1578 mm (l/w/h), and the wheelbase is 2190 mm. This is significantly larger than the first-generation car, which currently has dimensions of 2064/1493/1641 mm and a wheelbase of 2010 mm. The all-new Mini EV uses 13-inch wheels.

It’s claimed that the growth result in a more spacious cabin. The interior comes with a new caramel cream color scheme which uses a light chocolate brown as the main color with white cream inserts and upholstery. Although it is still utilitarian on the inside, the car now has an infotainment screen mounted on top of the dashboard rather than just the digital instrument panel used by previous versions.

The exterior comes in three so-called ‘fantasy high definition’ colors: puffed blue, bubble green, and sweet coffee. To create a color change effect, a 7-layer coating process is used. Powering the second-generation car is a TZ155XZ230 electric motor with a maximum output of 30 kW.

Again the top speed is capped at 100 km/h. It’s equipped with a 16.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack supplied by either Gotion or Saike Ruipu Power Battery System, providing a CLTC range of 205 km.

It should be noted that various sources refer to this version of the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV as either the third or fourth-generation car. In reality, this is the second generation, as all previous versions of the car were based on the same SGMW Global Small Electric Vehicle platform. Although there was some variation in dimensions, the design was only changed in the form of a very minor facelift rather than anything major, which was consistent with changes for a model year.

This car not only has a different platform and significantly changed dimensions but also has a different design, with the front being far more rounded than any previous Mini EV. Wuling is a joint venture between SAIC, General Motors and Wuling with SAI C having the controlling share. Sources: Autohome , Fast Technology.
