Languishing in last place, UP Warriorz will hope to score its first points at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday when it meets Delhi Capitals for the second time in three days in the ongoing Women’s Premier League. Facing each other in the final match of the Vadodara leg, Meg Lanning’s side clinched a nail-biting finish to register its second win.

For the Warriorz, it was a back-to-back defeat for the newly christened captain Deepti Sharma. If not for sloppy fielding, the Warriorz could have possibly won the match that went on till the penultimate ball. But all is not dull for the struggling side.

Opener Kiran Navgire found her groove after scoring a quickfire half-century in that match, which bodes well for the batting-friendly surface at Chinnaswamy. Her teammate, Shweta Sehrawat, also showed promise through her paced knock of 37 off 33 balls after being promoted up the order. Another silver lining in that defeat was Chinelle Henry - Alyssa Healy’s injury replacement.

In her WPL debut, the West Indies allrounder struck a 15-ball 33, which helped her side get to a competitive total. Skipper Lanning seemed to have found her footing this season with a 49-ball 69 after registering scores of 15 and 17 in the first two outings.

Moreover, the side will also boast of an on-song Annabel Sutherland. The Australian’s unbeaten 41 - stitching a partnership with South African Marizanne Kapp - and two crucial wickets earned her the ‘Player of the Match’ award against the Warriorz. Perhaps Capitals’ only rusty part of a seemingly well-oiled machine is Jemimah Rodrigues.

She’s coming into this fixture off a two-ball duck against the UP side. While she scored that 22-ball 34 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, a match which DC lost, she also has a five-ball two against Mumbai Indians on her record this season. DC has an upper hand over UPW in this fixture, having won four out of the previous five meetings in the WPL.

But, it’s a new venue and a new pitch. Going by the opener for the Bengaluru leg, where MI beat RCB, the side winning the toss should be looking to bowl first. With Kiran exuding confidence after the loss to DC last time out, she’ll be hoping to prevent the two-time finalist from doing a double over her side.
