The Today Extra star, 70, was interviewing the hitmaker, 76, who was once managed by Molly Meldrum , during the Dining At Dickie's segment which he hosts at his $5million Sydney home when he dished up the meal. As the pair happily chatted about The Real Thing singer's upcoming Farewell Tour, the Nine entertainment editor could be seen scooping peas out of a bowl of water onto a plate with mashed potatoes and under-cooked meat.
'You hungry?' Richard asked, to which Russell responded with: 'I'm always hungry. I was born hungry.' 'That's a very good thing,' Richard said.
Russel went on to say he skipped breakfast in preparation for eating the media personality's home-cooked meal. It comes after Russell announced he is set to perform one last tour before hanging up his hat and guitar for good.
The Aussie music legend, who has been in the industry for 58 years, will kick off The Farewell Tour in August as he travels around the country for a final time. He will start in Adelaide at the Festival Theatre on August 3 before heading to the Civic Theatre in Newcastle on August 7. The Perth Convention and Entertainment Centre on August 22 will be next before he performs at the Twin Towns Services Club on August 23.
The hitmaker will then jet to Melbourne to play at Hamer Hall on August 27 and Anita's Theatre in Thirroul on September 6. The Farewell Tour will feature some of Russell's biggest hits, including Hush, Sweet Sweet Love, and Wings of An Eagle.

The piece quickly became his most successful album and won the 2013 ARIA Award for Best Blues and Roots Album. 'For too many years to count, more than I care to admit, I've performed across every corner of Australia,' Russell said in a statement earlier this month.
'From smoky clubs to rowdy pubs, sprawling festivals to RSL halls; I've done it all, and I've cherished every second of it. 'Since the '60s, I've poured my heart into this circuit, but after decades of constant motion, I started to feel a creeping sense of déjà vu—maybe I was repeating myself, treading the same worn paths. 'That's why my albums have danced through so many styles—folk, rock, blues, you name it.
I'm not built for the repetitive; it's like circling the drain, and I refuse to let that be my story.' Russell went on to say he 'crafted this tour as a kid of farewell' to 'send-off to this chapter'. 'Is it the last shows? Who can say for sure? Life's unpredictable, and I'm not one for absolutes.
But right now, it feels like it could be. One thing's certain: no more endless rounds of clubs, pubs, or RSLs,' he said. 'Maybe a rare one-off gig down the line, if the stars align.
For now, though, this is my way of closing the loop—not the end of my music, but the end of the beginning. A pivot, not a full stop.'
