A powerful dust storm that hit Delhi and surrounding areas on Friday evening caused widespread disruption at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. Flight operations were severely affected, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded due to significant delays and diversions. More than 50 domestic flights from IGI Airport had been delayed while around 25 flights were diverted to other airports, and seven were cancelled, according to reports “Following the dust storm, numerous flights were either diverted or cancelled, causing considerable inconvenience for passengers waiting at the airport,” an official said.

“The arrival of diverted flights also led to congestion and long waits.” The chaos led to a number of complaints on social media, where frustrated passengers accused airlines of poor communication and mismanagement. One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote: “There is total chaos at Terminal 3.

@airindia, please at least update us on flight status. Display boards aren't working, and there’s no Air India staff in sight.” Several passengers shared photos of overcrowded boarding areas and expressed outrage over the alleged lack of assistance from airline personnel.

Tagging Air India and the Ministry of Civil Aviation, another user posted: “Most mismanaged, misinformed world-class international airport — New Delhi. Worse than a bus stand.” “Dear Mr.

Lal, we hear you. Kindly note that flights have been affected due to severe weather conditions. Please rest assured our staff is doing their best to assist all passengers," Air India replied in response.

Some reports indicated a sudden surge of passengers at the airport late Friday night and early Saturday morning, as multiple delayed and diverted flights arrived around the same time, further exacerbating the situation..
