Work to begin on new homes at former RAF air cadet site

Work is set to begin on new council homes at a former RAF air cadet site. Worthing Borough Council is bringing 11 energy-efficient homes to the empty lot in Victoria Road, Worthing. Contractor Sunninghill is due to begin work on the new flats which the council says are “urgently needed”.

Bushes and shrubbery have recently been removed from the area in preparation. A council spokesman said: “There are almost 2,000 households on the housing register in Worthing and these new flats will mean we can help local families who are at risk of becoming homeless. READ MORE: Plans submitted to turn RAF site into flats to tackle town's 'housing crisis' “We are currently having to house hundreds of families outside the area, away from their friends, relatives, jobs and schools, which damages their quality of life and is very expensive.



“The project will mean that as well as bringing Worthing citizens back to Worthing, we’ll be able to focus more of our resources on providing services to the community. “We’ve secured around £800,000 of government funding to clear the site and help pay for the development.” The council hopes the flats will be ready for tenants in autumn 2025.
