VACAVILLE – Construction on a new Sustainable Energy Project is scheduled to start Monday. "The city has partnered with ENGIE U.S.
to complete the $20 million solar project originally approved by the Vacaville City Council on May 14, 2024. The project includes the installation of solar photovoltaic systems at eight city facilities," the Vacaville administration said in a statement. The work will be completed in phases, beginning first at Three Oaks Community Center, McBride Senior Center and Andrews Park.
"During construction, visitors should expect parking delays, and are encouraged to plan ahead and use caution when visiting impacted city facilities," the city stated. The other city facilities that are part of the project are City Hall, Fire Station 71, Fire Station 75, the Ulatis Community Center and the Vacaville Corporation Yard. "The utility cost savings resulting from the improvements will pay for the project itself, while generating a net savings of nearly $24 million to the General Fund over the next 25 years.
It is anticipated that the solar PV ( photovoltaic) systems will generate 2.7 megawatts of new, renewable power from solar PV systems and 2,900-plus megatons of CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions avoided," the city stated. "Additional project benefits include paid internships through a workforce development partnership with Solano Community College, a contribution to the city of Vacaville’s downtown mural project, and the addition of 327 new trees throughout the city.
" ENGIE is also the company Solano County contracted with for its massive $40 million energy project. For more information about the Vacaville Sustainable Energy Project, including the most updated project timeline and phasing, visit CityofVacaville.gov/Energy .
