HAMMOND — The Southeastern Louisiana University track and field team got a record-breaking performance from the women’s 4x400-meter relay team while the men’s team took home the day’s overall title with the Lions claiming 29 podium positions at the 2025 Strawberry Relays Friday at the Southeastern Track Complex. Southeastern’s first medal of the day came in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase. Tanner Salsman took home the bronze medal by crossing the line in 10:40.
79. The Lions of the field then started to rack up medals. In the pole vault, Trey Faherty and Logan McCarthy both earned podium spots with Faherty taking gold by clearing 14’6” while McCarthy won the bronze by getting over 12 feet even.
In the high jump, Donald Butler and Alden Dupree proved to be on equal footing with both claiming bronze medals by clearing 2.05 meters (6’8.75”) in the same number of attempts.
Natalie Ioannou won the triple jump competition as she flew 11.29 meters (37’0.5”) to take home the gold.
Her counterpart on the men’s side, Lance Hamilton, took home a bronze in the same event by soaring 13.26 meters (43’6”). Gerrit Visser brought home a silver medal in the hammer throw with his best toss going 54.
15 meters (177’8”). The Lions owned the podium in the men’s shot put as Donroy Brown, Porter Gibson and Josh-Ty Brown made it a SLU clean sweep in the discipline. Donroy Brown’s best throw won him the gold, going 16.
98 meters (55’8.5”) while Gibson took silver with a toss of 16.03 meters (52’7”) and Josh-Ty Brown took the bronze with a throw of 15.

On the men’s side, Gibson won the competition with a toss of 47.53 meters (155’11”) while Alba Hansson took the top step in the women’s competition with a throw of 44.03 meters (144’5”).
Micah Miller, who came in fourth right behind three teammates in the shot put, won the silver in the men’s discus throw with a toss of 47.01 meters (154’3”). Gabriel Lim was golden in the javelin throw competition as his best throw of the day went 54.
94 meters (180’3”). Right behind him was Christian Diggs, who finished with the silver medal thanks to a throw of 51.68 meters (169’7”).
On the women’s side, Bailey Babin won silver with her best toss going 36.70 meters (120’5”). The medals continued to flow to Southeastern once the track events started.
In the men’s 4x100-meter relay, the team of Jaden Bardales, Kendall Cleveland, Alex Gordon and Olu Ogunyemi took home the silver with a time of 41.41 seconds. Three pieces of hardware came SLU’s way in the 1,500-meter run.
On the men’s side, Euan Lagan was golden by crossing the line with a time of 4:03.80 to win the day while Landen Schillage was not far behind him with a time of 4:11.08.
Ava Pitarro took the bronze in the women’s 1,500-meter run, crossing the line in a time of 4:54.49. Already possession a silver medal from the 4x100-meter relay, Ogunyemi added a couple of golds to his collection by winning both the 110-meter hurdle and 400-meter hurdle competitions.
In the 110-meter hurdles, he crossed the line in 14.35 seconds to win the day. He followed that up with a time of 52.
96 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles to earn the top spot in the podium. In the women’s 800-meter run, Cayden Boudreaux earned a bronze medal by crossing the line in 2:26.94.
Three more medals came Southeastern’s way in the 200-meter dashes. On the women’s side, Marvellous Asemota won the silver medal with a time of 23.96 seconds while Miriam Kauer stopped the clock in 24.
61 seconds to win the bronze. On the men’s side, Bardales took home the gold by crossing the line in 21.19 seconds.
The final medals of the day for the Lions came in the 4x400-meter relays, which also turned into a record-breaking moment for the women’s team. The squad of Esther Nwanze, Onyah Favour, Aneace Scott and Kauer finished the trek in 3:42.07, breaking the mark of 3:43.
30 which had stood for 25 years. That time earned them a second-place finish in the competition. The men’s 4x400-meter relay team of Victory Achakpoekri, Josh Anding, Daniel Atinaya and Javon-Taye Williams finished its run in 3:17.
29, also taking home a silver medal to wrap up the day. Southeastern has one last meet prior to the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships, the LSU Alumni Gold. The LSU Alumni Gold meet takes place on April 26 at Bernie Moore Stadium on the LSU campus.
