The National Women's Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls has received a $500,000 grant from the Historic Preservation Fund of the National Park Service for the rehabilitation of the Seneca Knitting Mill. The hall moved into the first floor of the newly restored four-story limestone building in 2019. Work began in 2021 to create full accessibility to all floors with a new stairwell, restoration of the historic circular stairwell, an initial second-floor buildout and the addition of a glass-enclosed bridge link to the new elevator.
All was finished by the end of 2023, the hall said in a news release. The new grant will help the hall with second-floor exhibit lighting, improvement of its HVAC and electrical systems, and the implementation of new office and program spaces. “We are honored that the National Women’s Hall of Fame is set to receive this grant, helping us to create a first-class site for visitors from around the world to learn about the significant contributions of American women to our nation’s great history," hall board President Jean Kilbourne said.
"It is especially significant that our new home resides in the birthplace of the American women’s rights movement.” For more information, visit womenofthehall.org .
