In a viral video, a woman was seen washing her hair with toxic foam in Yamuna river along with many devotees taking a dip during Chhath festival. What are the short-term, long-term and chronic health consequences of these acts? Yamuna river water has never been more toxic than right now. A layer of toxic foam continues to cover the river for a month.

This is an annual phenomenon in Yamuna and it happens as a result of extreme pollution in the environment. This year, due to the presence of toxic froth, the Delhi High Court had issued a warning for people especially devotees to not conduct any puja in the river. However, ordinary citizens continued to ignore the warning and as usual many devotees were witnessed to conduct their Puja on occasion of Chhath festival.



In one of the videos that went viral yesterday, a woman was seen bathing and washing her hair in the toxic water. At one point she w seen using the toxic foam on her hair to wash it just like a shampoo. Many other devotees were also seen taking a head to toa dip in the contaminated water during the festival.
