Straddling between a size 16 to 18 in June 2022, Clare Kelly was experiencing menopausal symptoms and joint pain, acknowledging that she was "in very bad shape". Fed up with this downward spiral of feeling unwell, in pain and putting on more weight, when the scales hit 13 stone, Clare decided to try something new. "I started researching anti-inflammatory diets , which led me to Dr Mosley's books and eventually The Fast 800 programme ," Clare told Express.

co.uk. The Fast 800 programme is a low-carb, predominately Mediterranean-style diet that focuses on intermittent fasting.

"I saw the free trial, and because I really like structure and routine, I decided to give it a go," Clare said. Signing up of the 12-week programme, Clare "lost weight almost immediately" after reducing her daily calorie intake to 800 calories. She did this by following the "brilliant" 800 calorie plan that enabled her to plan her meals for the week ahead.

"I love the different recipes available, which are updated regularly," said Clare. "The quality and imagination behind them are fantastic." Her favourites are the "Tuna Mornay" and "Mozzarella Chicken", but the other bonus of the Fast 800 programme, in addition to the recipes, is the exercise guide.

Joining her local gym, Clare found a support community consisting of many like-minded people. "In autumn, I started training with a personal trainer," Clare added, saying it's been "pivotal" in the way she feels. "My joint pain has improved and my energy levels started to soar," Clare reflected.

"I felt in control of my body for the first time in years." Clare beamed: "I needed to buy new clothes by the end of the 12-week programme, which I was thrilled about." Now Clare, at 54, has shrunk from 13 stone to 11st 4lb but added: "Feeling strong is more important to be than how I look, and I'm comfortable and happy with my current shape.
