Pune: The Pune rural police on Saturday arrested a 57-year-old woman from Dare Vasti in Junnar taluka in connection with the murder of her daughter-in-law. The woman's son hacked his estranged wife, Alka Bamble (33), of Ghodegaon to death with an axe and a billhook at his house. The woman assisted her son and urged him to murder the employer filming the incident, Pune rural police told TOI.

Bamble's 54-year-old employer ran to the Junnar police station and lodged a complaint after witnessing the incident on Friday. An officer from the Junnar police said that Bamble and her husband had a dispute over some domestic issue. She was staying at Ghodegaon, separately from her husband.

"According to the complainant (victim's employer), a few days ago, the suspect went to Bamble's house and took away their son's school-related documents and the woman's cell phone," the officer said. Recounting the day of the incident, the officer said, "Bamble, who had been living separately due to domestic disputes, visited her husband's residence on Friday with her employer, a friend, and the friend's daughter to retrieve her son's school-documents and a mobile phone. An altercation ensued, during which Bamble broke her husband's phone.

" Furious by this, the suspect and his mother held the victim by her hair and pushed her down. The woman suspect started beating the victim, while the suspect took an axe and tried to kill his wife. "At the same moment, the complainant had hold of his hand.

Following this, the suspect took out a billhook and assaulted his wife," he said. The officer said that the complainant and the victim started running away from there. However, the victim lost her balance and fell down.

The suspect, who was chasing her, hacked her to death. "As the complainant was recording the incident, the suspect's mother told him to kill her (victim's employer) also. Following this, the complainant, Bamble's friend, and friend's daughter fled from there and went to the police station," he said.

The officer said that the police team reached the spot and took the suspect's mother into custody. "Search is on for the woman's son," the officer said. Assistant public prosecutor Mayur Ghodke said that the woman was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court at Junnar and remanded to police custody till March 26, Ghodke said.
