A woman has died following a concern for welfare call on the motorway in Lancashire. Police were called at around 9.45pm last night to the M6 southbound between J32 and J31.
The road was closed for some time leading to diversions being put in place. A police spokesperson said: "At around 9:45pm on Saturday 21st December we were called to reports of a concern for welfare on the M6 between junctions 31 and 32. "Officers attended, and despite the best efforts of emergency services, a woman in her 70s was very sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
"Our thoughts remain with her loved ones at this difficult time." The road reopened at around 12.30am this morning.
