Vadodara: A 20-year-old woman with life-threatening pregnancy complications survived after a fortnight of intensive care in Anand district. The woman bled severely eight and a half months into her pregnancy. She was referred to Shree Krishna Hospital in Karamsad from the Nadiad Civil Hospital.

She was admitted to the critical care unit and was managed by a multidisciplinary critical care team. "Tragically, an emergency caesarean section found that the baby had died, which complicated the matter," said a doctor, adding that the team continued its efforts to save the mother. A team of specialists, including haematologist Dr Suraj Goyanka, nephrologist Dr Mitesh Makwana, gynaecologist Dr Monica Dixit and the intensivist team led by Dr Samir Patel, worked tirelessly to stabilize the patient.

"The patient received 80 units of blood due to her critically low platelet levels," said Dr Dixit. "The patient's liver and kidneys were failing, necessitating ventilation and specialized care," said Dr Rachit Patel, an intensivist. "Thanks to the timely and comprehensive treatment, our team could save her from this life-threatening condition.

" "This NABH-accredited multispecialty facility in Charotar is helping combat maternal mortality, which is critical as Gujarat progresses to improve its maternal mortality rate," said Dr Dhaval Prajapati, an intensivist..
