Vehari - A woman from Dar-ul-Aman Vehari, Ramsha Shehzadi, survived an armed attack by her ex-husband outside the Mailsi court during her appearance in a dissolution of marriage case. Her ex-husband Tariq and two accomplices opened fire, injuring police constables Zahoor Hussain and Muhammad Bilal, who bravely protected her. Ramsha and a passerby were also injured.
The attackers fled but were traced to Green City, where Tariq was accidentally shot by his own accomplices during a police raid. The other suspects escaped. A case has been registered under anti-terrorism and attempted murder charges.
Following CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz’s directions, Chairperson Women Protection Authority Hina Parvez Butt visited Vehari and met the injured. She lauded police courage and assured justice for the victim. DPO Vehari Muhammad Afzal reaffirmed zero tolerance for crimes against women and urged immediate reporting through helpline 15 or the Virtual Women Police Station.
