A WOMAN has suffered serious burns following a gas bottle explosion in a state forest, which led to her being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital. Login or signup to continue reading Emergency services received a call about 2pm on Saturday, November 9 to reports a gas bottle attached to a barbecue had exploded. The incident occurred west of Morisset; a NSW Ambulance spokesperson told the Newcastle Herald .
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked to the incident at the Olney State Forest where the woman in her 40s was suffering from painful burns. The helicopter's critical care medical team was winched into the location and treated the woman before putting her on a stretcher. She was winched out of the forest and flown to the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.
Emergency services were unable to provide the woman's condition. Fire and Rescue NSW states Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) can be extremely dangerous if stored or used incorrectly. It's recommended to check cylinder hoses for leaks by brushing or spraying with soapy water.
Ensure all gas hoses and connections are correctly fitted.
