A trial has commenced for a woman accused of being a part of a group that attacked a man in Frilford near Marcham in Oxfordshire.

Stacie Marshall is on trial at Oxford Crown Court charged with wounding with intent after an incident on June 22, 2023. It is alleged that the 37-year-old played a part in an attack against Vincent Denecker with others who have not been named in court. The trial for Marshall, of Cheviot Road, South Shields, started on Monday (March 7) this week.

She has denied the offence, telling the court she had not been involved and had in fact tried to help the victim. During the trial on Tuesday (March 8), a eyewitness who claims to have seen the incident, told the jury that he had seen a woman ‘punching’ Mr Denecker. He said that he had been inside his caravan near the incident when he had seen a group of young people pass by his home.

When leaving his caravan, it is alleged he saw a man holding Mr Denecker around the neck with one arm and punching him with the other. He told the 12-strong jury: “Yes, he was standing up and holding him around the neck. He had his arm around the neck and was punching him in the face.

“He looked like that tennis player, Dan Evans. He was quite tall and balding on the top. He was about 35 years old.

” The witness said there was another man nearby who was shorter and ‘just watching’. When asked about whether he had seen a woman involved, the witness said: “I saw the man holding him and punching him and a woman punching him at the same time and a younger boy watching. “I ran back in to get my mobile phone and when I came back out Vincent was on the floor and there were two or three of them but I don’t know how many were kicking him.

“I was worried he was going to die. I wanted the phone to get some pictures and to try and phone the police to try and protect us.” Defending Marshall, her barrister explained that her case is she had tried to stop the incident but that after Mr Denecker had become ‘aggressive’ and ‘grabbed her’, causing them both to fall.

Asking if the man if he had seen this, he said: “That’s not true.” When asked if he definitely saw the incident, the man replied: “It’s absolutely true.” The trial for Marshall, of South Tyneside, continues.
