The majority of the car park was blocked off by police A woman has suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car at Tesco . Emergency services were called to the Old Swan supermarket on St Oswald Street at around 9.40am today, Wednesday, October 16.
Merseyside Police received reports of a crash involving a black BMW and a woman at the car park. The pedestrian, an 89-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries and has been taken to hospital for treatment, a spokesperson for the force said. A large cordon was in place and majority of the car park was blocked off to drivers.
Tesco remained open following the scene. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters helped to free the woman who was "underneath the vehicle". Several police officers and vehicles remained at the car park following the incident.
The driver, a 37-year-old woman stopped at the scene and has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving. A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said she will be questioned later today.
