Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Boubacar Traore will be sidelined until Christmas following surgery to repair a knee injury. The 23-year-old Mali international injured his knee in last month’s Carabao Cup victory at home to Burnley and Wolves have now received a clearer timescale on his recovery following successful surgery. Advertisement “Bouba is on crutches at the moment,” said head coach Gary O’Neil.
“He’s had a repair to the joint surface in his knee and will probably be out until around Christmas.” Wolves head for West Midlands rivals Aston Villa in the Premier League tomorrow with defender Rayan Ait-Nouri (ankle) and Toti (hamstring) both facing late fitness tests. “I need to check on Toti and Rayan today in training to see how they go,” said O’Neil.
“Neither of them has done too much this week so both have still got a bit to do to make sure they’re available for tomorrow.” Backup goalkeeper Dan Bentley is also expected to miss the trip to Villa Park through illness but midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde is set to travel. He was rested from Wednesday’s Carabao Cup defeat at Brighton to manage an ongoing minor knee issue.
