Wolves have sacked manager Gary O'Neil, according to reports. The Midlands outfit sit 19th in the Premier League table and lost 2-1 to Ipswich Town at Molineux on Saturday, where ugly scenes emerged post-match between players and staff from both clubs. The result leaves Wanderers four points from safety heading into the hectic festive schedule.
They will do so without O'Neil, however, who has struggled to get the side going, amassing just nine points from 16 matches. O'Neil had been at the helm for 16 months after succeeding Julen Lopetegui - now manager at O'Neil's former club West Ham - in August 2023. New names have already emerged among bookmakers as to who will replace O'Neil in the Molineux dugout.
Bookmakers BetVictor have former Swansea City manager Steve Cooper as the early frontrunner at 5/1. Sergio Conceicao and Pedro Martins are next in line at 6/1 and 8/1 respectively, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the ex-Cardiff City and Manchester United boss, is at 10/1. Interestingly, Solskjaer was at Wolves' game against the Tractor Boys yesterday, but it is believed he was there to support former United coach Kieran McKenna, who is now the boss at Portman Road.
Graham Potter, the former Swansea coach, also makes the early running.
