Wolverines head football coach Sherrone Moore unquestionably saved his job after Michigan flipped Bryce Underwood from LSU . Speaking vaguely on the subject, since he can’t comment on Underwood directly until he signs, Moore celebrated Underwood’s decision as a pledge from recruits to help rebuild Michigan into the powerhouse it was under Jim Harbaugh. “The guys understanding what the culture is like, what the vision is for the program and I think that’s why we’re getting these high-level kids,” Moore said (h/t On3 ).
“Guys that want to be part of bringing back what has been the last couple years of Michigan football.” FanSided’s Quinn Everts immediately penned a piece titled “Sherrone Moore might have just saved his job at Michigan with massive recruiting win” in the aftermath. While Everts acknowledged that Moore was never truly in danger of being fired, he stressed how important this was to stay in good graces for the long haul.
“In his first year as coach of the Wolverines, Sherrone Moore's season has been a bit of a dud. Michigan is 5-5 and fighting to qualify for a bowl game. Moore's job has probably never been in danger, but this definitely isn't the first impression that Moore wanted to make on Wolverines fans.
Landing the top recruit in the country? That's a pretty good second impression,” Everts wrote. Of course, college football moves quickly. If Moore can’t get the most out of an Underwood-led roster next season, conversations could reignite on the head coach’s job security.
Anxiety is no longer on anyone’s mind when it comes to Moore in Michigan, though. Underwood’s decision will lead to more talent heading to Ann Arbor and the Wolverines will have momentum again. The Big Ten is on notice again.
Underwood was a needed victory for a fanbase that saw their program quickly blow up in smoke after a 15-0 College Football Playoff Championship season..
