WNCC volleyball wins twice over weekend

The No. 18 Western Nebraska Community College volleyball team won a pair of Region IX South conference contests over the weekend.

The No. 18 Western Nebraska Community College volleyball team won a pair of Region IX South conference contests over the weekend. The Cougars swept both Otero College (25-14, 28-26, 25-21) and Trinidad State College (25-11, 2521, 25-21) WNCC (23-7 overall) sits in second place in the South conference at 6-1.

The Cougars have three road games this week. WNCC travels to Eastern Wyoming College on Tuesday, and to Lamar Community College and McCook Community College Friday and Saturday, respectively. The Cougars had a strong serving game against Trinidad with seven aces.



Taylor Tyser had a double-double with 10 points, 14 digs and an ace. Tamika Eastman also had a double-double with 14 kills, 10 digs, two aces and five points. Lilly Zwart finished with 12 kills and five points while Finja Schul had five kills, nine points, five digs and two aces.

Nora Marginean had four kills, five digs, three points, an ace and 30 assists. Friday's contest was also a show of balanced serving and kills. WNCC finished with seven aces against Otero along with 38 kills while hitting .

346. Eastman tallied 11 service points with an ace, seven digs and eight kills. Zwart led the team with 13 kills with four digs, six blocks, two aces, and six points.

Tyser finished with 10 digs and five points, while Tovo-Sunia had nine points, two aces and seven digs. Marginean had 29 set assists, three kills, two blocks and four points. Adams State 3, Chadron State 0 ALAMOSA, Colo.

— Bo French had six kills and hig. 294 and Avery Lacy had a match-high 11 digs as the Eagles fell in straight sets Saturday. Scores were 25-14, 25-23, 25-15.

The Grizzlies led from start to finish in both the first and third sets. The second set was much more closely contested with 16 ties and seven lead changes. The Eagles were ahead 23-21 in the second set, but Adams State garnered the final four points.

CSU Pueblo 3, C SC 1 PUEBLO, Colo. — Bella Adams hit .625 for the match and finished with 11 kills but the Eagles fell in four sets Friday.

Scores were 25-17, 25-20, 20-25, 25-21. Alejandra and Mataya Ward had 10 and nine kills, respectively, and Chadron State finished with 10 blocks. Aiyana Fujiyama led the way with six.

Eagles quarterback DJ Ralph passed for 157 yards while completing 12 of 21 attempts for a touchdown.
