Western Kentucky's women's golf team sits tied for third place after 18 holes of the Lady Paladin Invitational, with the Lady Tops' Catie Craig and Sydney Hackett both inside the top six after Friday's first round at the Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, South Carolina. The Lady Toppers trail Xavier by five shots, while Craig is two shots back of Xavier’s Kara Carter on the individual leaderboard. “It was a solid start for us today as a team, anchored by Catie and Sydney who both had strong rounds," WKU coach Adam Gary said in a news release.
"We’ve once again put ourselves in position to play near the top of the leaderboard over the next 36 holes and see where the chips fall at the end of the weekend. It’ll be important for us to stay present and focus on each shot as we move forward in the tournament.” Craig tallied five birdies on Friday, registering her third 2-under par 70 in her last four rounds.
She is tied for third. Hackett totaled three birdies against two bogeys for a 1-under 71. She is tied for sixth.
WKU's Averi Cline and Kaylee Dwyer are tied for 34th after identical 3-over 75s. Julia Zigrossi rounded out the lineup with a 4-over 76, while Nina McMurtrey had a 5-over 77 playing as an individual. The second round of the Lady Paladin Invitational features a shotgun start at 9 a.
