A weather advisory for a "powerful" winter storm with heavy snowfall and winds has been issued across 15 states. The warnings are in place across Alaska, California , Idaho, Kentucky, Maryland, Montana, New York , Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin. The storm is slated to bring snow and wind to parts of the U.

" It is expected to snow the heaviest in West Virginia, where a winter storm warning will be in place from 7 a.m. Thursday to 7 p.
m. Saturday EST. Certain counties - Northwest Pocahontas, Southeast Randolph, and Southeast Webster - in the state may see up to 20 inches of snow and 45 mph winds.
West Virginians have been warned to expect power outages as power lines may be knocked out. They have also been warned that travel will be "very difficult to impossible," particularly during Thursday and Friday work commutes. DON'T MISS.

There is expected to be up to 50 mph winds in the Western Highland-Western and Grant-Western Pendleton counties of Maryland; Eastern Tucker, Pennsylvania; and Greenbrier county, Virginia. For Pennsylvanians, a "potent winter system" is slated to hit the cities of Thomas, Canaan Valley and Davis. Residents of those cities should consider delaying travel plans due to slick roads and reduced visibility, the NWS warns.
Alaska and South Carolina are also slated to get hit with 50 mph winds, which may impact travel. People in all 15 states have been advised to exercise caution. "If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency," the NWS says.
