Wind Advisory Issued for Sacramento Valley, Foothills Brace for Gusts up to 45 MPH

Sacramento faces a Wind Advisory with gusts up to 45 mph and possible thunderstorms and snowfall in the forecast.

Sacramento, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 2 pm today until 8 pm Thursday, with gusts up to 45 mph. Secure outdoor items and drive cautiously, especially in high-profile vehicles.In addition to strong winds, there’s a 20% chance of isolated thunderstorms through the week, especially in Shasta County and the nearby foothills.

Snow is expected in the mountains from Thursday to Saturday, with levels between 4000-5000 feet. There’s a 40-70% chance of significant snowfall above 5000 feet in the Sierra and southern Cascades. After a brief break on Saturday, another round of precipitation is expected Sunday into next week.



The Sunday-Monday system will drop snow levels to 4500-5500 feet, with a 30-60% chance of over 4 inches of snow above 5500 feet in the Sierra and southern Cascades—perfect for skiing or sledding. Then, a Tuesday- Wednesday system will push snow levels to 5000-6000 feet, with a 20-50% chance of more than 8 inches of snow above 5500 feet, as per the National Weather Service.Travelers and early flyers, take note: VFR conditions will continue across the region for the next day.

However, winds will pick up around 18z today, reaching up to 40 knots in the northern Sacramento Valley and nearby areas. Light rain showers are expected in the northern Sacramento Valley starting around 00z Thursday. Elsewhere in the Valley, expect southerly gusts up to 25 knots, and if you’re heading to higher elevations, mountain gusts could reach 50 knots.
