May 25, 1933—March 28, 2025 Darlene passed away after a long full life of nearly 91 years. Born to Joseph Thomas Claybrook and Malva Beatrice Chuesberg Claybrook in Balko, Okla. Darlene married Vaughn Dale Nelson in 1954, together they relocated to Elko and together they raised four children.
Darlene was among the very first graduating class of nurses and worked for many years at the Elko General Hospital and was especially proud of her years working in the surgery department. Darlene is survived by four children, Vonetta Menaka (Jose), Jacque Micheli (Bill), Doyle Nelson and Debra Ames (Jack); grandchildren, Dana Micheli Schmuck (John), Gina Micheli Mullin,(Cody) Kara Nelson Kowis (Wally), Doyle “Bo” Nelson (Megan), Sheila Nelson Stazak (Greg), Shelby Nelson Richardson (David), Amanda Regnier, Ryan Regnier (Tamra); and seventeen great grandchildren. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and husband.
Private internment will be at the Burn’s Memorial Garden. Per her request, there will be no service. The family suggested any donations be made to the Great Basin College nursing program.
