Willmar School Board to meet Sept. 9

The school board will discuss the bonds passed during the 2023 ballot, damages to the high school prior to the start of the school year and more.

WILLMAR — The Willmar School Board, at its Monday, Sept. 9, meeting, is expected to discuss the bonds issued for the construction of the Willmar Middle School gym addition. Voters approved the $6.

1 million in bonding in the Nov. 7, 2023, election. Part of the discussion will include a resolution to amend and restate a prior resolution which stated the intention of the school board issuing general obligation bonds.



This would allow the board to refund the existing bond, issued in 2015, as it issues a new building bond. This would allow the school distrcit to save on debt insurance costs and could result in savings for taxpayers. Also to be discussed at the meeting will be damages to the Senior High School caused by the storm on Aug.

26, the results of the summer food service program, updates to the school’s teacher apprenticeship program and the first week of school. The board will close the meeting for a portion in order to discuss ongoing negotiations with labor groups within the school. Closing a meeting for labor negotiations strategy is an allowed exemption under the Minnesota Open Meeting Law.
