has put an end to the speculation surrounding his biggest rumour. The rapper used a sample of The Police’s song Every Breath You Take on his 1997 hit I’ll Be Missing You and Diddy claimed he had been paying the band’s frontman $5,000 in royalties per day for the use of Sting’s music. Back in 2023 Diddy put the situation to bed once and for all.

He tweeted: “I want y’all to understand I was joking! It’s called being facetious! Me and @OfficialSting have been friends for a long time! He never charged me $3K or $5K a day for Missing You. He probably makes more than $5K a day from one of the biggest songs in history. LOVE [emojis].

” I’ll Be Missing You was a tribute to Diddy’s pal Biggie Smalls and became his biggest hit single which was surrounded by drama. Diddy, real name Sean Combs, reportedly only asked Sting for permission to use the Every Breath You Take track after the song was released. The pair have previously addressed the situation and back in 2018 during an interview with The Breakfast Club, Sting claimed he receives $2,000 a day from Diddy.

The clip resurfaced in 2023, to which Diddy quote tweeted and replied: “Nope. 5K a day. Love to my brother @OfficialSting!” Combs then clarified that he’d been joking.

During the 2018 interview, Sting said: “We’re very good friends now. It was a beautiful version of that song.” P Diddy was arrested on 16 September and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution.

Combs has “categorically denied” all of the claims made against him. He is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn awaiting trial. His son Christian Combs recently sparked controversy after he took over Diddy’s Instagram and shared throwback videos of his father in an attempt to “spread good energy”.

Christian explained he wanted to “take y’all down memory lane,” but critics weren’t having any of it. Down in the comment section, someone slammed him for the move: “This is so tone deaf, just go and prepare for the holidays in silence.” The Daily Star is now on WhatsApp and we want you to join us!
