We've told you about pet adoptions before, but this one is a little different. These animals weigh more than a thousand pounds and they are wild. A wild horse and burro adoption event is happening at the Cullman County Agricultural Trade Center through Saturday.

For just $125 you can become the proud owner of a wild horse. But you have to a safe place to keep him and the bureau of land management will keep tabs on you and the animal for a year to make sure it's a good fit. The Lees drove down from Tennessee to adopt two wild horses.

They have horses but decided to come to this adoption event after meeting someone who had adopted a mustang. Nicole Lee said, “We learned a lot about it when she got her horse and that was the sweetest horse in the world. So, we were like, you know what, let's start getting these, start getting mustangs.

” This is a regular event for the Bureau of Land Management. They round of wild horses and burros every year from the almost 29 million acres of public land they manage in 10 western states. They say the round up is a form of herd management, so the horses don't deplete resources.

And they say they're smart and someone with horse experience should have no problem taming them. Shawn Farnsworth with the BLM said, “The whole point of training wild horses is to engage with the animal and to gain the horse's trust. It doesn't take long if you're quiet with them and you're hand feeding them every day and just standing there and being present, then horses will bond with you after about a week or two.

” McKenzie Bach is sold. She drove her trailer all the way from New York to pick up a yearling. She said, “I think it'll be really exciting.

He will have no bad interactions with people, so it'll be great to build relationship with him.” Many of the people here to adopt have done it before. They say getting to know these mustangs and see them adopt you into their herd is life changing.

Lee added, “If you can gentle a mustang, you know, and then options are endless.”.
