LAGOS – Former deputy of Akwa Ibom State, Chris Ekpenyong pointed out that Nyesom Wike’s actions are influenced by the perceived weakness within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Ekpenyong reminded everyone that Wike had issued warnings about sparking unrest in states governed by the PDP. Ekpenyong highlighted that the minister’s behavior stems from the PDP’s weakened state, noting that such actions wouldn’t have occurred if the party held more strength.

He expressed regret over the PDP’s demise, attributing it to being absorbed by state governors. The ex-senator, in an interview with journalists in Uyo on Sunday, expressed his views. He said, “Inquiring about a young man who perhaps got initiated into a political party and rose from being a local government chairman under the guidance of his mentor – Dr.

Peter Odili – to his current position. He now claims he aims to challenge the root cause, as everything has a root. I won’t engage in a dispute with him, but I believe he is capitalizing on our party’s deviation from its original vision and mission set by its founders.

Otherwise, you wouldn’t witness a governor within the PDP overshadowing the party; it shouldn’t have happened. However, I am curious to see how he plans to confront this.” “That will indeed be a shock to determine if the PDP is still breathing.

The PDP has retreated into a shell, it’s yet to be resuscitated, and he believes he has the strength to fight, but I don’t think so.” As per the ex-deputy governor, the PDP’s decline was due to the absence of fairness and the imposition of leadership. “The PDP is a nationwide party present in every corner of Nigeria, founded on principles of social justice and fairness, meaning you can’t simply handpick; you must follow a process and be the choice of the people.

It wasn’t a party of imposition, a place where being a governor made you a deity, but nowadays, the PDP has been engulfed by governors, and leadership no longer originates from the people,” he elaborated.
