Why the religious right doesn't have a monopoly on defining Jewish identity

The discussions on sex-segregated, outdoor Yom Kippur services in Tel Aviv sparked debate about our identity as non-religious Israeli Jews. But would a secular organization have organized similar services, without the separation? Why do we need Rosh Yehudi to organize services to draw us – Jews raised in ignorance, according to the organization – closer to religion? Tradition, by definition, becomes obselete, but it's possible to do things differently. The question is whether, at this point, anyone wants "differently"?.
