Ahmad Bello Babangida, has given reasons his party decided to participate in the state’s local government election. He said that NRM is a party that respects the laws of the land, adding that he did not join the local government race for fun but to make a point that NRM members are very obedient people.

Fielding questions from newsmen in Gusau, the state capital, Babangida said that he was very optimistic that he would run away with victory at the upcoming local government election in the state. “Election is not all about incumbency, but a game of numbers. Former Governor Mamuda Aliyu Shinkafi was in office as PDP Governor when he lost the governorship election to Abdulaziz Yari of the defunct All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP).

” According to him, the number one opposition party in the state, All Progressives Congress (APC), is making a very big mistake by boycotting the local government election in the state for the fear that justice will be miscarried. “In my own opinion, many APC supporters in the state will not welcome that idea, because it will reduce the party’s popularity and give room for the PDP to be controlling the state,” he added. Babangida further stated that his party decided to join the contest to keep the party alive against the 2027 general elections in the state.

“We are not afraid of the ruling party in the state, even though we have not formed any government in the state, but we had produced a lawmaker in the state House of Assembly in the 2019 general elections.” Speaking further, he said that nothing will stop his party from participating in any election in the state unless instructed by the party’s headquarters. He appealed to the party’s supporters to remain law-abiding and respect the electoral laws to avoid violence in the state.
