From Ndubuisi Orji, AbujaAhead of the 2027 General Elections, key opposition figures in the country are pushing for a coalition so as to be able to sack the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). However, the member of the House of Representatives representing Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency, Honourable Moshood Oshun, says Nigerians, despite moves to oust the APC, will vote for President Bola Tinubu again in the next presidential poll. Oshun said this is because the Tinubu administration is working hard to fix the country and make life better for the people.
The lawmaker also speaks on proposed electoral reform and agitations for the creation of more states, amongst other issues: googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.

They believe the APC has not done well and that the country cannot make progress under the ruling party. What is your take?In politics, you don’t expect your opponent to see anything good in what you are doing.
That is one thing. But if you want to be fair, this administration came in when the economy was on the verge of collapse. And if you look at what happened in the last one and half to almost two years, there have been a lot of improvement in Nigeria.
You won’t expect the rot of 15 to 20 years to be cleared in one year. $(document).ready(function(){(adsbygoogle = window.
adsbygoogle || []).push({})}); Members of other parties coming together, I am sure by the time the election comes in 2027, Nigerians would have seen reason to vote APC back into government; because things are getting better in Nigeria, whether you agree or not. For me, I don’t think it (opposition coalition) is something to be afraid of.
Nigerians will decide. Nigerians want good governance and they know under APC they will get good governance. So, you can be rest assured that by next election things would have improved more.
Things are even improving now. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is doing well. Yes, it is a bit tough.
When you want to grow a maize, when you plant the maize, the maize would have to get rotten first, before it starts germinating. We have passed the stage of rottenness. We are now germinating.
People are now willing to come to Nigeria to invest. Nigerians abroad are willing to come home. The issue of security has improved.
So, things are improving. I am not saying we have gotten to the promised land. There is room for improvement and we will continue to improve.
When we talk about the APC administration, it is not just the less than two years of the President Bola Tinubu administration. Buhari was here for eight years, so it is close to 10 years of the APC administration. Yes, if you want to look at the party.
But I want to talk about the present government. If you want to tell me that Buhari was in government for eight years, a party was in government for 16 years. A party in Nigeria was in government for 16 years.
Can you please tell me one achievement. So, if you have a party in government for 16 years, that could not point to anything they achieved, you cannot compare that to a government under two years. You said the people will vote President Tinubu again.
What has he has done right that will warrant the people giving him a second term?So many things. Firstly, you talk of security. There was a time in this country that bandits, herdsmen were going into schools kidnapping 300 students, 200 students.
There was a time in this country that herdsmen will go into a village kill 50,80 people. When was the last time you heard that? $(document).ready(function(){(adsbygoogle = window.
adsbygoogle || []).push({})}); You can’t eradicate poverty in one day. The improvement we have seen in terms of security is massive.
You and I know that. That is number one. Let’s look at the economy.
When Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu came into power, the state of our economy, what was it? The only thing we kept seeing was the building. I keep saying it, if we didn’t take this drastic measure in terms of Naira, dollar rate, fuel subsidy removal, if we didn’t take those decisions, you have few persons making all the money at the expense of Nigerians. Now the governor of every state is getting more money.
Everybody keeps asking what has Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu done. Go and ask your governors. Talk to your governors.
A governor that was receiving maybe N5- N6 billion before Asiwaju came in, who is now receiving N15 billion, what is he doing with the money. Go back to your states. Look in every state we have three categories of roads.
We have the local government, state and federal roads. I don’t even think we know the difference. Everybody keeps talking about federal, federal.
What is happening to the states. What is happening to the Local Government. Local Government are getting triple what they were getting before.
What are the council chairmen doing with the money. We are not seeing that improvement that will equate to the improvement in the money. How has it been representing your people in the Green Chamber in the last two years?I don’t think I will be in any position to judge myself.
But I think to the best of my ability, I have tried, I think I have done well in the last two years, in terms of motions and bills. I have sponsored five bills. I have done some motions.
Some affecting my Local Government directly. Some affecting the entire country.I have done motion on treatment on Nigerian on airfare.
The money we pay, that is affecting Nigerians generally. I have done motion on Makoko which is my Constituency. In my Constituency, I have had solar lights done.
I have had boreholes done. I have had school built. I am trying to build an ICT Centre.
I have trained over 2000 in different skills. And we have given them something to start business. $(document).
ready(function(){(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({})}); In terms of employment, what I am telling my people, is that not all of us will work in an office.
I think I have not done badly. But like I said, I won’t be the one to judge myself. There are several bills for the review of the Electoral Act, what new things do you want to see in the Electoral law ahead of the next General Elections?Firstly, the issue of having primaries eight, nine months to the elections, I think that should be reviewed.
Campaigning for eight months is a long time. It stops even people in government from doing so many things. If, for example, you are a governor of a state and you have gotten your party’s ticket to re-contest, and you are to campaign for eight months, it is going to affect governance in your state.
I think we need to come to the old law where elections are done maybe two months, three months after primaries. Two, there is this issue of having all elections on the same day. If it is going to be economical, why not? Then the issue of moving your voter’s card, I think we need to review it.
What happened in the last election was a case of people just moving voter’s card even to where they don’t live. You should vote where you live. Because it is where you need the amenities.
It is better for a politician to know that okay I have 70 percent of children in my Constituency. So, you know what you are going to fight for. But in a case where you live in Constituency A and you are voting in Constituency B, it doesn’t make sense.
It means that those in both Constituency A and B will not be able to plan. You need to plan. So, it is better for you to vote where you liveAs part of the ongoing constitution review, there are clamour for creation of new states, including the creation of a Lagoon State, from Lagos State.
Do you think, Nigeria needs more states?I think we need to be careful. Some states cannot even maintain themselves and we want to create more. We need to have a balance.
What is that balance? We need to merge some states. We need to merge some states. We cannot keep creating States.
I don’t think there is any member in this House, who doesn’t want one or two states created from his own state. But the question is, are they viable? $(document).ready(function(){(adsbygoogle = window.
adsbygoogle || []).push({})}); If you have any proposed state that you think is viable, that can sustain itself, why not? But those that are not viable, don’t let us be sentimental about it. We need to be very reasonable about it.
If we sit down and think okay this state needs to be broken into two, maybe it is too big or viable economically, fine. But don’t let us do it on sentimental basis, because we want to create a state here, we must create there too. I don’t think it makes sense.
Because if you create a state that can’t even maintain itself, a state that does not have any IGR, that doesn’t bring in anything, does it make any sense? Then you have to employ workers that you can’t even pay their salaries. You can’t provide good health services. You can’t provide good education.
So, we need to be very realistic about it.The post Why Nigerians’ll vote Tinubu again –Oshun, Reps member appeared first on The Sun Nigeria..
