Johannes Hoff Thorup has praised Emiliano Marcondes ahead of the expected extension of his Norwich City contract. Marcondes will leave Carrow Road this summer as things stand, with the short-term deal he signed in October last year running out at the end of the season. The Canaries are very likely to take up the option they have to add a further 12 months to that deal, however, and that's no wonder after his head coach's glowing appraisal.

"He gives us some presence up front," said Thorup. "I think that sometimes we're probably a little bit too dependant on scoring goals where everything is just right: 20 passes in a row that are completely right, the perfect delivery, the perfect finish. "But sometimes he can take a scrappy situation and turn it into a good offensive situation for us.

He plays the game very well, he reads the game very well. He stays in very offensive positions and is always looking for where the ball can drop down or where the rebound could be, where the chance could be. "In many ways I think he's a little bit different to some of our other offensive players, and he's got the experience in the league that we have seen a couple of times.

Either from the bench or as a starter, he can give some of the younger boys experience." Although the Dane stopped short of confirming Marcondes' longer-term stay, he promised fans that news would come before long either way. "We can probably open up for a little bit more clarity and communication after we play [against Millwall]," he continued.

"Then everyone will know exactly where we are with the contractual situations on different players. "But he has been vital for the team in many ways. He can take a little bit of the pressure off some of our other players because he naturally thrives on it.

He gives us something.".
