Why Love Is Blind’s Ramses Didn't Break Up With Fiancée Marissa Sooner

Ramses Prashad was holding out hope. Though the Love Is Blind season seven star faced backlash for suddenly dumping fiancée Marissa George before their wedding day, Ramses shared why he waited so long to break up with her. "I, in my heart of hearts, wanted this to really work," he exclusively told E! News at the reunion, airing Oct.

"The reason why it even got so far is because my heart really wanted to walk down that aisle and see Marissa coming down that aisle as well, but I had to recognize just where our fundamental differences were." "It's difficult to see and hear—even now—how much that heartbreak has affected her," he explained. "I'm a pure empath, and it hurts me to hear that to this day." Following their split, Ramses and Marissa had several off-camera conversations to discuss his "reasoning" behind the breakup, according to the program associate, who works at a justice reform nonprofit.

"I wasn't trying to cut her out of my life," he shared. "I wanted to be available to her, to have the conversations that she needed to have, so that she could find closure." But, as Marissa exclusively told E! News in a separate interview at the reunion, "Eventually, we did have to stop talking, because it was just not good for either of us.

" They had reconnected before the reunion and were "talking pretty frequently, a couple hours a day, just chatting about everything and just being friends," she noted. However, after filming the explosive reunion episode, "I don't know about now—he won't even look me in the eye, so probably not after this." On the plus side, Marissa was able to learn more about what led to Ramses' surprise dumping, which she believes was five days in the making.

"Prior to tonight, I had thought Ramses made the decision to break up with me that day," she told E!. "But now, after sitting through the reunion and hearing what he had to say, I do believe that he was stewing on it a little bit longer and just didn't tell me, no matter how many times I asked him, 'Are you sure?'" Overall, the experience has taught Marissa some valuable lessons about what she wants in the future. "What I learned from Ramses and our relationship—and what I definitely do not want in my next relationship—is a partner who shuts down emotionally," she continued, "and isn't ready to fully commit and work through the really hard things.
