Read More On Saturday evening in Hyderabad, actress Lakshmi Manchu graced the runway for her annual fundraising fashion show, Teach For Change. The event supports the NGO’s mission to provide education to underprivileged children. However, the night took a heartwarming turn when Lakshmi’s brother, Manchu Manoj, made a surprise appearance, leaving her in tears.
The unexpected reunion during the event was particularly touching, given the history of their family’s feud. What could have been a private matter has spilt into the public domain so let’s get the blow-by-blow detail. But first, let’s take a look again at the viral video wherein Manchu Manoj can be seen sneaking up behind his sister Lakshmi Manchu as she was focused on the ramp.
When Lakshmi turned around and saw her brother, she was so overwhelmed with emotion that she immediately sat down and broke into tears. The touching moment was followed by Manchu Manoj’s wife, Mounika Bhuma Manchu, who stepped forward to comfort Lakshmi. Check it out below: The Manchu family’s ups and downs have been well-known in the media.
The fight is taking place between Mohan Babu’s children Vishnu Manchu and Manchu Manoj while their sister Lakshmi Manchu stays out of the way. In fact, just a few days ago, Manchu Manoj caused quite a stir by staging a dharna outside his father Mohan Babu’s residence in Jalpally. Apparently, he was denied entry into the house, and that’s when he decided to protest right outside the gates.
The Manchu family drama runs deep, with tensions stretching back years. Reports suggest that the rift between Manoj and Vishnu has been simmering for quite some time. The root of the conflict seems to be the division of the family’s vast business empire, which includes prestigious institutions like Mohan Babu University and the Sree Vidyanikethan Educational Trust.
While Vishnu has been given major roles in running these institutions, it appears Manoj hasn’t been entrusted with the same level of responsibility. Reports say Mohan Babu’s perceived favouritism toward Vishnu has caused friction within the family. While Vishnu continues to receive financial and professional support, Manoj has reportedly faced neglect.
Manoj’s much-anticipated pan-India film, Aham Brahmasmi, was unfortunately put on hold due to budget issues. At the same time, his father Mohan Babu went ahead with producing the film Cheaters with Vishnu, backing it with a hefty budget of Rs 50 crore. Sadly, the film couldn’t even recover a quarter of its investment.
Recently, Mohan Babu made waves by investing a massive Rs 100 crore into Vishnu’s upcoming project, Kannappa. Despite Vishnu not having the strongest market presence, this big bet has stirred up quite the debate. Netizens are calling it a case of clear favouritism, which many believe has left Manoj feeling left out and distant from the family’s inner circle.
But wait, there’s more to the story! The family’s disapproval of Manoj’s marriage to Mounika is said to have added fuel to the fire. Manoj and Mounika tied the knot in a low-key ceremony at Lakshmi Manchu’s house in Hyderabad, which apparently didn’t sit too well with the family. The rift within the Manchu family first started in 2023 when Manoj shared a video allegedly showing Vishnu mistreating their staff.
Vishnu later dismissed the clip as part of a ‘reality show’ they were creating, House of Manchus, a claim his siblings refuted. Tensions flared again in 2024 when their father, Mohan, filed a complaint against Manoj and his wife, Bhuma Mounika, expressing concerns for his safety. In response, Manoj alleged that goons had broken into his house and attacked him, leaving him injured.
He filed a police complaint the following day. Manoj alleged that the group gained access to his property under the pretense of delivering a birthday cake for their mother. Once inside, he claims they “deliberately sabotaged" the main generators by pouring a mixture of diesel and sugar into them, causing significant damage.
The actor further detailed the consequences of this act, stating that the tampering led to a severe power failure late at night, resulting in dangerous electrical fluctuations. Manoj said, “This put my entire household at risk, including my mother, my nine-month-old daughter, and other relatives who had come from the village." He also alleged that vehicles were parked near the tampered generators, alongside active gas connections in the house, creating a potential hazard for a massive fire or explosion.
“It could have triggered a massive fire or explosion," he noted, emphasizing that such a scenario could have led to loss of lives. Mohan Babu, meanwhile, filed a police complaint on December 9, 2024. He claimed that Manoj and his wife had forcibly occupied his Hyderabad home.
In response, Manoj filed a counter-complaint, saying that ten unidentified people entered his house and attacked him. In February this year, Manchu Manoj was arrested by the Tirupati police in connection with the family dispute. The arrest followed an ongoing investigation into the matter and the cops took the actor into custody.
According to reports, Manoj was arrested from his residence in Tirupati and shifted to Bhakarapet police station. The arrest was made based on a complaint filed by Mohan Babu. Earlier, in an interview, Viranica, who is Vishnu’s wife, had revealed how the fight has affected her kids.
Vishnu and Viranica have four children – Ariaana, Viviana, Arya Vidya and Avram. Talking to NTV, Viranica said, “Every family has their own issues; it’s not just for my family. A lot of their issues don’t come out unfortunately our issues did.
There’s nothing one can do about it. For me, my priority is my children." Viranica said that the feud has affected her children more than her.
“I’ve always maintained that. I am like a sponge; I take everything. But my actions are dependent on my children.
This whole crisis that we’re dealing with has affected my kids more than me. They were scared about what was going to happen. I try to stay away from all sorts of controversy; I step away from it.
If my children have to be sane, I need to be that sanity for them," said Viranica. Mohan Babu, a renowned Telugu actor and producer, has three children: Manchu Vishnu, Manchu Lakshmi and Manchu Manoj. Vishnu and Lakshmi are from his first wife, Vidya Devi, while Manoj is his son from Vidya’s younger sister, Nirmala Devi, whom he married after Vidya’s death.
Mohan Babu’s vast business empire includes the production company Sree Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures, alongside co-ownership in two other production houses—24 Frames Factory and Manchu Entertainment. While Vishnu controls 24 Frames Factory and Lakshmi runs Manchu Entertainment, Manoj ventured out on his own in 2019, launching MM Arts without his father’s backing. His debut project, Aham Brahmasmi, co-produced with his mother Nirmala Devi, has yet to be completed.
