Shedeur Sanders continues to fall in the 2025 NFL Draft. The New York Jets could've been a landing spot for the former Colorado signal-caller, but the team opted to take Louisiana State tight end Mason Taylor with the No.42 overall pick in Round 2.

Ahead of the draft, Sanders was a projected first-round pick. However, the 23-year-old is still on the board on Day 2, and the Jets decided to address their need at tight end over selecting the dynamic pocket passer. Why did Jets pass on Shedeur Sanders? New York signed Justin Fields to a two-year deal worth $40 million in free agency .

Though Fields has struggled for most of his career, the 26-year-old showed a ton of promise in 2024 with the Pittsburgh Steelers and could be a solid starter for the Jets this season. With Fields already on the roster and under contract till 2027, selecting Sanders wouldn't have made much sense. Additionally, first-year head coach Aaron Glenn may have wanted to avoid a potential quarterback controversy between Fields and Sanders, and the distractions that come with it.

We'll see where Sanders will end up in the draft, but the Jets passed on him in favor of a potential immediate starter in Taylor.
