In “Kian’s Bizarre B&B,” Jin and Ji Ye-eun find themselves as “employees” of Kian84’s “unconventional guesthouse” on a remote island, where they learn how to survive through harsh conditions, eat with limited resources, and perform housekeeping duties, to name a few.
Throughout the series, Jin’s leadership skills and street smarts earned him the moniker, “Manager Kim Seok-jin,” with Kian84 and Ji relying on him. He has sort of a military persona,” Kian84 said during the show’s press conference in Seoul, when asked about his working experience with the BTS member.
“He has charisma and the ability to show people [what to do]. He emerged as the true leader of the pack,” he continued while Jin shook his head in embarrassment. According to Jin, “Kian’s Bizarre B&B” was his “first schedule” after his military discharge in June 2024.
He also made appearances in several events, dabbled in fashion-related pursuits with luxury brands, and dropped his first mini-album in November of the same year. “After I got discharged from the military — except for ads and other [activities] — the very first schedule of mine was ‘Kian’s Bizarre B&B.’ When I went there, I felt like I was back in the military service,” he said.
Jin also shared that he wanted to show a glimpse of his experience with his bandmate J-Hope, who was discharged in October 2024. “J-Hope was discharged in October, and I wanted to make use of it. After he was discharged, I kidnapped J-Hope and brought him to what looks like a military camp,” he recalled.
Jin added that Kian84 was a factor in why he chose “Kian’s Bizarre B&B” as his first post-military project. “My algorithm on my phone was filled with Kian for some odd reason. I was very curious because we see him onscreen, but it’s very different when you get to know him personally.
I was just really curious,” he said, adding that he also observed his co-star from the sidelines. “I was thinking about the [reality show] ‘Hyori’s Homestay’ when I did the show. But I knew there was going to be a twist.
I knew there was going to be a trap. But it was way more than what I expected. I was perplexed, but I [was happy] to meet Kian and observe him up close.
I think Kian is an amazing host. (From left) Kian84, BTS’ Jin, and Ji Ye-eun during the press conference of “Kian’s Bizarre B&B.” Image: Netflix Korea Jin has been widely considered the best cook among BTS members, which was proven in “Kian’s Bizarre B&B.
” At one point, he added ssamjang (Korean spicy dipping sauce) to doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), an attempt to boost the stew’s savory flavor. “I have always loved good food. I have a lot of friends who are chefs too.
Sometimes, if I go out to eat and see something that’s good, I would ask the chef how they make that dish,” Jin said of his cooking abilities. “When you start cooking, you get a feel of how to make something that will taste good. I learn from people [as well].
” The “Running Wild” singer admitted that he “doesn’t have a lot of recipes up [his] sleeve,” but having an instinct for food was helpful during his time in the variety series. He also briefly shared a time when he added pork belly to a black bean sauce recipe. “I don’t have a lot of recipes up my sleeve, but I do have a basic sense of making something taste good and improvising.
I’m no professional chef, but I try my best,” he said. “I make doenjang jjigae a lot because I have to cook my meals at home. I ask my guests if they would like to eat anything, and I would improvise.
” During the press conference, Jin was often addressed as a “superstar” or a “member of BTS,” monikers which he felt added weight to his personality. This led to him sharing that he made an effort to get close with his cast mates and the show’s staff, in hopes of breaking the ice between them. “I feel like a lot of people don’t want to be close with me, so I act very fun and friendly toward them.
I know some would [feel intimidated] around me because I am part of BTS,” he said. BTS’ Jin in a scene from “Kian’s Bizarre B&B.” Image: Netflix Korea If ever Jin has the chance to recommend a bandmate to be part of the series, he reiterated that he would rather choose himself.
“My favorite BTS member is also myself, so I want to recommend myself [to be part of] this trio,” he said, drawing laughs from the audience. Subscribe to our daily newsletter By providing an email address. I agree to the Terms of Use and acknowledge that I have read the Privacy Policy .
