Bolton Museum has been hailed as one of the best in the country. We went out to speak to people in town to find out what they love best about the historic venue. Bolton Central Library, Museum, Aquarium and Archive, housed in a Grade ll Listed building on Le Mans Crescent, is considered one of the best museums in the country.

Situated in the heart of Bolton town centre’s cultural quarter, GoldCo has crowned the free museum the best in the country by analysing TripAdvisor reviews. It came top with 93.69 per cent 5-star reviews.



Boasting an aquarium, archive, library and displays of art, photography, Egyptology, archaeology, botany and zoology, the museum has something for everyone. The museum is free to all comers from the public (Image: Newsquest) Nursery worker, Ella, 19, from Bolton said: “I’ve been to the museum a couple of times when I was younger. Now I work in a nursery I’m coming more often with the children.

” She thinks the museum should stay free because she values accessibility. As a child, her favourite thing about the museum was reading all the books. As a nursery teacher, she enjoys making the most of the child-friendly groups.

Ella added: “The staff make the group activities feel very welcoming.” All kinds of exhibits are on display (Image: Newsquest) Katherine Knight, 70, only recently visited the museum with her husband, son and young grandson for the first time, despite living locally in Oldham all of her life. She said: “I am very impressed.

” Cllr Ayub praised the museum’s “fantastic facilities, free for all the public.” The Cllr added: “It is great for young children and school groups, and most importantly, it’s free.” Bolton Central Library and Museum is also the focal point for many key events for families and people of all ages from Bolton and beyond.
