As some high school football teams’ seasons around Kansas City come to an end in their , The Star is taking a look back at some of the best performances from the regular season. Every week, The Star reached out to high school football coaches in the Kansas City area for their Player of the Week nominations. The nominations were collected for a weekly poll and readers voted for the player they believed had the best week on the field.

Here’s who you voted for throughout the season. Week 1: Matthew Meyer, Oak Grove received the majority of the 1,011 votes from readers in Week 1’s poll. The wide receiver earned 90 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns in the 44-22 loss to Knob Noster High School.



Week 2: Charlie Loose, Rockhurst threw for 261 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 42-25 win over Olathe North High School, earning him The Star’s Player of the Week for Week 2 with 427 votes. Week 3: Nick Doering, Basehor-Linwood had one of the best games of his career during Week 3, carrying the ball 32 times, gaining 195 yards and scoring twice on the ground. He also had a 68-yard receiving touchdown in the 42-35 win over Shawnee Heights High School.

He had the most votes out of the 58 readers this week. Week 4: Garrett Pierce, Basehor-Linwood A standout defensive performance from earned him the bulk of the reader’s 8,181 votes for Week 4’s Player of the Week. He had 16 tackles, 2 sacks and a forced fumble in a 21-7 win over De Soto High School.

Week 5: Carson Dixon, Basehor-Linwood More than 260 passing yards and 5 touchdowns in a 59-6 victory over Topeka West High School earned the Player of the Week for Week 5. He received the most votes from 580 cast by readers. Week 6: Nash Morrison, Basehor-Linwood knew his time to shine would come, and it came in Week 6 with a 7-reception, 138-yard and 2-touchdown performance in a 44-6 win over Tonganoxie High School.

He received the majority of the 144 votes from readers. Week 7: Max Armstrong, Olathe South ran for 312 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 40-28 win over Lawrence High School. From the 304 votes from readers in Week 7’s poll, his performance received the most support.

Week 8: Josh Stahl, Pembroke Hill totaled 6 touchdowns — 3 passing and 3 rushing — in the 43-26 win over Van Horn High School. He threw for 238 yards, rushed for 133 yards and received the most votes from the 150 readers..
