The couple also had two sons, Christopher and James. The family was well-off, per People, and the New York-raised Morris studied at Washington’s private Georgetown University before a stint at Columbia University, New York. Her ancestors reportedly include Lewis Morris, who signed the US Declaration of Independence as a delegate to the 1776 Continental Congress; Gouverneur Morris, who played a key role in writing the US Constitution; and The Age of Innocence author Edith Wharton.

Coincidentally, Scorsese directed an adaptation of Wharton’s novel in 1993. According to People, Morris was previously divorced.
